Serra da Estrela, a beautiful mountain range containing the highest point in Portugal – O Torre 1993 m. Most of the area is a National Park.

Arganil, only eighteen kilometres away, is a picturesque small town on the Rio Alva, with a market every Thursday.
Rio Mondego – the ‘River of the Muses’ – offers opportunities swimming and for beautiful walks.
Buçaco, the most famous park in Portugal – over 300 years old and with 700 different species of trees.
Rio Alva has many nice small beaches suitable for swimming. These beaches, which slope gently, are particularly suitable for children.
Lisbon, a little farther afield but well worth a visit!
With one of the oldest universities in the world, Coimbra offers a wide range of tourist attractions, including museums, bars, some with traditional fado singing, shops, restaurants etc.
